Forty metres of hull, seven cabins, and a balcony at every door

Read the plan from the bottom up. Four Deluxe studios sit on the main deck; above them are Mansard I, Mansard II and the Junior Suite. All seven have a private balcony, an en-suite bathroom with a hot shower, and air conditioning.

The upper three have one thing the studios lack. Each can take an extra bed for one or two guests, within the 18 overnight total. A Deluxe studio stays at two, because no extra bed fits it.

Each cabin has one double bed; separate beds exist only as the extra bed in an upper cabin, so friends who need their own beds ask us before they book. For a party made up of couples, the four studios are the obvious doors.

Cabin floor area is not published, so ask us before you book if it matters.

One price buys the whole boat. Two days and one night cost IDR 140,000,000 (≈ USD 8,589), three days and two nights IDR 180,000,000 (≈ USD 11,043), four days and three nights IDR 230,000,000 (≈ USD 14,110), and five days and four nights IDR 280,000,000 (≈ USD 17,178). Each figure covers 1 to 14 guests and stays the same when fewer come.

A couple pays for the boat, while fourteen friends split the same sum fourteen ways. On the three-day route a full party of fourteen pays IDR 12,860,000 (≈ USD 789) each; a party of six pays IDR 30,000,000 (≈ USD 1,840).

A few costs are billed separately: the Komodo park package, which we quote per trip type, a guide and documentation if you ask for them, drinks, and crew tips. Paying through a card link adds 3 percent. You see every one of these in a written quote before anything is charged.

Three kinds of trip fit this deck plan particularly well, and each has a page of its own.

First, the high-end holiday, in which seven households each get a balcony and a bathroom. The measurement behind it is one bathroom to every two guests on the base plan, plus a long outdoor table that seats everyone at once.

Second, the celebration: a milestone birthday, an anniversary or a reunion of up to 14. A party like that gathers at the long table on the open deck, and on four-day and five-day charters the beach dinner is part of the price.

Third, the company trip. An executive retreat sleeps up to 14 overnight, and a gathering of up to 30 can take the day charter out of Labuan Bajo, returning before sunset.

Honeymooners, families, groups of friends and photographers will find their own pages as well, each reading the same boat for a different party.

The nine stops on this site make quite different demands on your legs, and sorting them by effort makes any itinerary easier to judge.

• Climbs: Padar, the ridge that opens the second morning of the three-day route, and Kelor, a short climb on the final morning.
• Ranger-led walks: Komodo Island or Rinca, where you meet wild dragons on foot with a ranger.
• No walking needed: Pink Beach (sand and shore coral), Manta Point and Taka Makassar (snorkelling, with a sandbar at low water), Sebayur (a reef), and Kalong, watched from the deck at sunset.

Kanawa makes nine, but no printed route includes it. We can put it to the captain as a request; we never promise it. Manjarite, the snorkel stop on the last morning, is named in the itineraries without a page of its own.

The weather and the captain set the sequence of stops and choose where the boat anchors at night.

Neptune works for a family or a group of friends of up to 14, and for three generations who want the upper cabins to themselves. It works for a celebration planned around the long table. A company can bring 14 people for an overnight retreat, or up to thirty guests for a day charter on the water.

A scuba trip is a poor fit, since the equipment list covers snorkelling gear and no dive kit. So is a party where every guest needs a separate bed, because each cabin has one double. And if you want to pick the sailing date of a shared seat, look elsewhere: those seats go out on set dates.

Two limits bear repeating. Above 18 guests overnight you need a second boat, and the 30-guest day charter has nobody sleeping aboard.
